Solar Nano Project

Project Details

InfraCo Bangladesh Solar Nano Grid Pte. Ltd (“InfraCo”) is an infrastructure development company based in Singapore, envisaged to install 2000 standardized 3 kW Nano grid (hereafter referred to as ‘the Project’), with each Nano-grid designed to cover more than 50 households within 1km-2km (approximately) area of the installation, in the poorly serviced grid areas of Bangladesh. Each 3kW system will have 10-12 solar panels. The panels will be on structures which will be supported on a concrete pedestal. These will generally be on the ground in off grid areas and on roof in “equivalent off grid area”. The project (a total of 2000 Nano grids) is intended to be implemented in two (2) phases. In the first phase 500 Solar Nano grid systems will be installed over a period of three years. As part of phase 1, InfraCo planned to have a standardized 3 kW Nano grid (“Nano Grid”) system in five (5) bazaars (locations) at Hatiya Upazilla of Noakhali District in Bangladesh. Each Nano Grid is designed to cover at least 50 households within 1km-2km (approximately) area targeting off-grid households (HH) or small businesses like shops/dealerships/tea shops and HHs in ‘equivalent off Grid’ areas areas where grid power is not available for significant periods of the day and which are being served by costly captive diesel generation. Grid capacity of 3kW has been designed based on experience of sponsor from their pilot project. The project is proposed to be developed by Nano Solar Limited (NSL). EQMS Consulting Limited (hereinafter referred to as “EQMS”) has been assigned to undertake an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) and Environmental and Social Management Framework (ESMF) in order to understand the environmental and social sensitivities associated with the project and to implement mitigation measures in order to avoid adverse impacts during the Project’s lifecycle as well as to meet the prospective lenders’ requirement.
